As the Peter Max mural on her hull indicates, Norwegian Breakaway is Norwegian Cruise Line's New York-based ship. Her primary itineraries are Bermuda, the Bahamas and the occasional Canada - New England cruise. But like many New Yorkers in the dead of winter, Breakaway answers the call of the Caribbean with a series of cruises from New York to the Caribbean. In this photo feature, we follow Breakaway on one such voyage. (For photos of Breakaway on an earlier Caribbean cruise click here).

Due to a passenger medical emergency, Breakaway had to cancel a scheduled call in San Juan, Puerto Rico. (See article). Consequently, Breakaway's first port of call on this cruise was St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Even though St. Thomas is one of the most popular cruise destinations in the Caribbean, no other cruise ships were about and so Breakaway had the port all to herself.

Breakaway's next port of call was only a few miles away on Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands.
With Breakaway was AIDAmar.
