SUMMARY

AIDAmar was the sixth ship built in AUDA Cruises' Sphinx series. She is the sister ship to ALIAblu, AIDAsol and AIDAstella. She is a slightly larger version of the design used in AIDAluna and AIDAbella.

In an unusual move, AIDAmar's May 2012 christening ceremony in Hamburg, Germany was attended by fleetmates AIDAluna, AIDAblu and AIDAsol.

In terms of gross tonnage, AIDAmar is not a very large cruise ship by contemporary standards. However, she presents herself as a large ship offering an impressive of array of features and amenities.

The ship is targeted toward young, active cruisers. Its club-like style is informal. To illustrate, there is no dress code and no assigned dinner hours and tables. Instead of a main dining room. AIDAmar has three self-serve restaurants, each with a different atmosphere. Wine and beer at lunch and dinner are included in the cruise fare.

For a change of pace, AIDAmar has three specialty restaurants including an American steakhouse, an Italian restaurant and an Asian sushi bar. These venues have additional charges.
AIDAmar does not have a traditional theater. Instead, shows are performed at the base of the ship's multi-story atrium. However, the atrium has been equipped with advanced theatrical technology and is supported by an extensive backstage giving this venues impressive capabilities. Other entertainment venues include a 4D movie theater.

The vast majority of the guests are from German-speaking countries. German is the onboard language but many of the officers and staff also speak English.

AIDAmar was constructed to be environmentally friendly and efficient. She has a flow-optimized hullo and has a low friction undercoat to allow her to sail through the water with less drag.
