You never can tell where you will find AIDAvita. The ship gets around. Here, we encounter AIDAvita in three North American ports. However, they are not the only ports she visits.
AIDAvita is a relatively small ship. However, a small size allows the ship to visit more ports because she can go to ports that cannot handle larger ships as well as the popular cruise ports. The ship caters to the German-speaking cruise market. She offers an informal club-like atmosphere where guests can meet new friends. |
We first encounter AIDAvita in St. John's Newfoundland. This port is often confused with St. John, New Brunswick, which is a popular port on Canada - New England itineraries. Located further out into the Atlantic, St. John's is less often visited. However, it has a rough scenic beauty and a history extending back to Viking times.
Here, AIDAvita is docked beneath Signal Hill where the first transatlantic radio message was transmitted. |
Halifax, Nova Scotia has become a popular cruise port. As a result, the commercial piers are sometimes pressed into service for cruise ships when other ships are at Halifax's two cruise terminals. On this occasion, Queen Mary 2 (below), a favorite with the German market, and her fleetmate Queen Elizabeth were at the cruise terminals so AIDAvita was at the nearby commercial pier.
|
AIDAvita is also a familiar sight in the Caribbean. Here, she is docked in front of Old San Juan, the historic part of Puerto Rico's capital. San Juan, is a popular port and on this day there were several other cruise ships in port. AIDAvita shared a pier with Anthem of the Seas (below) showing that she also goes where the big ships go.
