As the cruise industry restarted, it was only natural that Norwegian Gem would be stationed in New York for the winter season. New York is where the ship entered service and for several years she remained NCL's New York ship. Clearly, as the industry struggled to attract customers back to cruising, it made sense to station the ship where she had a following.
In addition, Gem is a powerful, fast cruise ship. These attributes make her well-suited for traveling through the winter weather down the East Coast to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. |
Although several ships are visiting the port, it is far from busy. That is because all of the ships are sailing below capacity. In order to enhance passenger safety, the lines have limited the number of passengers on each sailing. Furthermore, with COVID surging around the globe, many cruisers are just staying home.
