As the Peter Max artwork on her sides indicates, Norwegian Breakaway is a New York ship. Consequently, she is a familiar sight sailing down the Hudson (more properly the North River at this point) from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal and out to sea.
Sailing from Pier 88 is not as simple as it looks. As the ship pulls out, the river's strong current pushes against the ship's port side as it emerges from the sheltered slip. This has caused some ships to sail sideways down the river even with tugboat assistance. However, at least on this occasion, Breakaway holds her own against the current unaided.
Her turn complete, Breakaway heads toward the mouth of the harbor and out to sea.
