SUMMARY
MSC Meraviglia is a large resort-style cruise ship. She was the lead ship in MSC's Vista class (sometimes called Meraviglia class). Her sister ship is MSC Bellissima.
To construct Meraviglia, MSC turned to STX Europe, which operates the shipyard at St. Nazaire, France. This yard built such maritime legends as the Normandie, SS France, Queen Mary 2, and more recently Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas. Although Meraviglia is not the largest cruise ship in the world, she is very big. Unlike the innovative design of her smaller fleetmate MSC Seaside, the exterior design of Meraviglia is similar to other contemporary cruise ships. The ship has three pool areas: one with a retractable roof; a large central outdoor pool area and an aft pool area, which can be transformed into a dance venue in the evening. It also has an aquapark with three twisting water slides. Inside, Meraviglia is decorated like an upmarket Las Vegas resort. Highlights include a 315 foot long central promenade lined with shops and restaurants. Overhead, a giant 5,200 square foot LED screen shows changing scenes and images. A staircase with 32,000 Swarovski crystals embedded in it dominates the atrium. Entertainment offerings include a large main theater, an extra-tariff and the 10,700 sq. ft. Carousel Lounge. In addition to various bars, other entertainment features include a race car simulator and an indoor sportsplex. Meraviglia has 12 dining venues. The ship's main dining rooms serve a Mediterranean-inspired menu and there are separate venues for those who prefer traditional set time dining and for those who prefer a flexible dining system. Specialty restaurants include a Teppanyaki venue, an American-style steakhouse, a seafood restaurant, and a sushi bar. There is also a large buffet restaurant. As on most new cruise ships, Meraviglia has an area reserved exclusively for guests staying in certain suites - - the MSC Yacht Club. MSC attracts guests from many nations and so announcements are made in several languages when the ship is in Europe. However, when Meraviglia is based in the United States, English is the first language of the ship. |
