LIBERTY AND INDEPENDENCE IN FORT LAUDERDALE page one |

Liberty of the Seas is no stranger to Fort Lauderdale. Her younger sister Independence of the Seas also knows this port well. In this feature, we look at an occasion when the two ships were in port together and two other occasions when only one of the ships was there. This page focuses on Liberty while the next page focuses on Independence.

Liberty is docked at cruise terminal 24 on the eastern side of the harbor. This stretch of water is actually part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. As seen in teh first photo on this page and on the next page, Independence is docked further down the Waterway.

The Freedom class ships are a lengthened version of the Voyager class design. In addition to providing more space, the additional length gives the Freedom design a more streamlined look.

|
On another day, Independence is not in port. However, Silver Cloud is there to keep Liberty company. This time, Liberty has backed into her berth, which will make it easier to maneuver when she leaves.

Above: One of Liberty's signature feature - - a colony of penguins atop the bridge. Neither of her sisters (Freedom of the Seas and Independence) have them and so when you see penguins you know it is Liberty.
