Nassau is a cruising crossroads. Given its proximity to the south Florida cruise ports and the cruise line private islands, it is not surprising to find the port full of cruise ships.
Carnival Sunshine is no stranger to Nassau. Indeed, she has been coming to Nassau even before she became Carnival Sunshine. |
Carnival Sunshine began life in 1996 as Carnival Destiny. She was the largest cruise ship in the world at that time - - the first to surpass 100,000 gross tons. Although many other ships entered service that exceeded her in size, Destiny remained a popular ship for the next 17 years.
Then in 2013, Carnival Cruise Line invested in an extensive refurbishment of the ship. Indeed, it was such an extensive transformation that the ship was given a new name. More importantly, the transformation gave the ship the atmosphere and many of the same features as Carnival's newest ships. The result was so successful that Carnival undertook the transformation of Carnival Triumph (now Carnival Sunrise) and Carnival Victory (now Carnival Radiance).
As she sits in the Nassau sun, it is clear that the transformation did not harm the ship's lines. Indeed, while not an ocean greyhound, she looks sleeker than her more recent fleetmates.
